Amritsar-Delhi Air India hits severe turbulence mid-air; three passenger injured

Air India flight with 240 passengers on board on Thursday experienced severe turbulence and three passengers sustained minor injuries.

Turbulence trashed the Air India airplane right after take off since the plane lasted almost 1 / 2 its journey and reached 15,000 feet. The inner part of a passenger window fell off during the turbulence and a few overhead oxygen masks even fell open.

All the 3 passengers injured in the Air India incident chose to continue their onward flights from Delhi after being treated at Medanta hospital in Gurgaon, near the Delhi airport.

An Air India spokesperson said the flight, operating on the Amritsar-Delhi sector, faced severe turbulence because of bad weather during climb.

After the plane's window panel fell off an investigation has been launched by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) as well as the Aircraft Accident Investigation Board (AAIB).

TERRIFIED passengers had been left fearing for his or her lives when turbulence cracked a jet's window - hours after a girl died after she was sucked out of one other aircraft. As per reports by TI, a senior Air India said that the airline and the DGCA have started probing the incident. The overhead panel cover of a seat also reportedly got cracks.

An unidentified official said, "The turbulence on AI 462 was such that the head of a seated passenger, who possibly did not have his seat belt fastened, hit the overhead cabin because of a bump", according to The Times of India.

The turbulence left at least three people with minor injuries and caused a window panel inside the aircraft to break away, said four airline officials.
