The two Koreas will hold what will be their third summit since the 1950-53 Korean War next Friday, with a subsequent meeting planned between Kim and Trump - which would be the first time a sitting United States president had met the North's leader.

This comes less than a week before Kim is due to meet with South Korean president Moon Jae-in in the first inter-Korean summit in 11 years.

Earlier this month, member states added one person and 21 entities to the list of those subject to restrictive measures against the North. Sanctions were imposed on the DPRK in response to its nuclear weapon and ballistic missile development activities.

South Korea's presidential office said a successful test call was conducted on the hotline between Seoul's presidential Blue House and Pyongyang's powerful State Affairs Commission. If I think it's a meeting that is not going to be fruitful, we're not going to go.

Friday's announcement of a freeze on tests and the shutdown of a facility is sure to be a step in the right direction but Trump has said he will seek an agreement in which North Korea gives up its nuclear weapons, a goal that many analysts believe will be challenging.

Several analysts suggested that Trump, in a bid to free three Americans who have been held in captivity by the North, might offer to meet with Kim in Pyongyang - long considered a non-starter for a US president because of security concerns and the domestic propaganda bonanza it would hand the regime.

The North also vowed to actively engage with regional neighbors and the global community to secure peace in the Korean Peninsula and create an "optimal worldwide environment" to build its economy.

Working-level officials are scheduled to meet early next week.

The Ford F-150 diesel hits 30 mpg highway
And just like your old Schwinn bike, the diesel F-150 uses a 10-speed automatic to ensure the engine is always at the ideal rpm. Curiously, that's almost 2,000 pounds shy of the maximum trailer rating for a properly-equipped gas-engined F-150.

This will be the third inter-Korean summit between both countries, after summits previously held in 2000 and 2007. Earlier this month Central Intelligence Agency director Mike Pompeo met with Mr Kim in Pyongyang, and Mr Trump said efforts are on pace to convene talks by June. At the meeting, Mr Kim said he was hopeful that complicated conflicts could be resolved over a single phone call with Mr Moon.

"As I had looked at the Korean Peninsula the last few years, things couldn't be worse", said Richardson, who served as USA ambassador under President Bill Clinton and traveled to Pyongyang several times.

Inter-Korean relations have been improving since the North chose to take part in the February 9-25 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics hosted by South Korea.

North Korea has long decried the presence of United States troops, and their regular joint drills with South Korean forces, as provocations that could presage an invasion and necessitate Pyongyang's military buildup.
