The rules of succession mean that, unlike William, Harry is unlikely to one day occupy the throne. It was widely believed that the Obamas had the inside track, after Prince Harry and Mr. Obama forged a friendship while attending the Invictus Games in Toronto a year ago. Despite the close relationship the Obamas have with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, their attendance at the wedding has not been confirmed.

While there won't be any political invites, some expected the Obamas to make list based on their personal connection to the couple. He just participated in the Invictus Games UK Team Trials for rowing, swimming and archery, which Harry and Markle attended last week.

Also on the list is Amelia Thompson, 12, who was caught up in the suicide bombing at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester that killed 22 people previous year.
