Apple to release iPhone 8, 8 Plus with a noble cause

Apple discontinued the Product Red iPhone 7 and 7 Plus editions when it debuted the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus smartphones last fall.

According to the company, the phones sport the red colour in order to support the organisation (RED) and certain part of proceeds from the sale of every (PRODUCT) RED will go towards the fund. It starts from $699 for the iPhone 8 64GB in the United States, which is the same price as the standard model.

The new models have a black front face and a red backside, harkening back to the U2 iPod released back in 2004. Apple has also introduced a RED Leather Folio case for the iPhone X which costs Rs 7,900 and will be available from the same set of sellers. India will get the Red coloured iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus in May 2018.

The red iPhone 8 and 8 Plus will be available to order online in "select countries and regions" starting Tuesday, April 10, and they'll be available in stores starting Friday, April 13.

(PRODUCT) RED editions of Beats Solo3 wireless headphones and accessories for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch are also available.

Apple has previously released (PRODUCT) RED editions of its iPhones, with (RED) being a cause Apple supports, raising funds to help provide testing, counselling and treatment for tens of millions of people living with HIV/AIDS. Apple did launch a red colored iPhone but it was the iPhone 8.

iPhone 8 (PRODUCT) RED Special Edition comes in a stunning red glass enclosure, matching aluminum band and sleek black front.

Both RED iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus sport a lovely glass enclosure with a matching aluminum band. She said that the iPhone maker had donated more than $160 million in the first eleven years since 2006.

Those hoping for a Red version of the iPhone X will be disappointed, although, iPhone X owners can also join the fight agaisnt AIDS/HIV with a (Project) Red Leather Case.

Rosenblatt Securities analyst Jun Zhang had recently told clients that Apple was planning to launch the RED iPhone 8 and 8 Plus.
