"Bon-Ton is in active discussions with an investor group to acquire the company in a court-supervised sale process", it said in its statement.

Elsewhere, Bon-Ton informed OH officials of the possible closure of its West Jefferson fulfillment center, which would affect 330 workers, and an Elder-Beerman store in Dayton that employs another 122 people.

Because of that, they are required by law to give notice of closures, in case that sale does not go through.

Bon-Ton Stores, Younkers' parent company, announced the closure of 12 stores today, including the Eau Claire Younkers at the Oakwood Mall.

"Since that date (the company) has been actively engaged in efforts to reorganize the business or sell the business", Bon-Ton vice president Gail Monreal wrote to DEED. "We are encouraged by the interest in Bon-Ton, and we hope that jobs will be preserved through a sale process". An auction is set for April 9, followed by a hearing on April 13 to approve a sale.

The company sent a letter to the department Thursday saying that it plans to close stores in Omaha at Oakview and Westroads malls if it is forced to liquidate.
