Australia top cricket chiefs Friday ruled out stepping down after a ball-tampering scandal that shocked the nation, saying it was "not the time for a witch hunt" as a review into player conduct was announced.

David Warner has followed the path of former Australia captain Steve Smith in accepting the 12-month ban handed to them by Cricket Australia (CA). Warner, like Smith and Bancroft, have decided not to contest their bans as well.

News.com.au reports that after being "pinned as the mastermind in the entire scandal", Warner was expected to "go down swinging" by appealing his suspension.

"We heard this morning that David Warner had also accepted the sanctions Cricket Australia had put on him, so all three guys have accepted the sanctions". But his tweet implied otherwise, stating how he seeks to atone for his actions and become a "better teammate and role model".

Former captain Steve Smith was also banned for 12 months having had knowledge of the plot, while Bancroft received a ninth-month suspension. "Cricket Australia has to do something about it".

It has also led the sport's national administrators and the International Cricket Council to review the guidelines on what constitutes the so-called "spirit of cricket" and to make it more clear.

Mr Sutherland's position was not now under review but the entire Cricket Australia administration would likely "come under the microscope" during the review, Mr Peever said. The man with 27,000 global runs however didn't give a direct answer to what he would have done had he been a Cricket Australia official. Smith was found guilty of not doing enough to stop it.

The independent review will run in tandem with another player-driven process - headed by former test opener Rick McCosker - to draw up a "charter" for standards of behaviour and expectations of Australian men's cricket teams. But it started becoming evident when Smith and Co. returned home that they didn't want to prolong the episode.

The Australian Cricketers' Association president Greg Dyer had expressed his displeasure over the severity of the punishment.

"We, as Australians, like to play our game hard, we like to play our game fair and our fans expect us to play that way".
