Israeli forces kill 3 Palestinians during Land Day protests

Maj. Gen. Eyal Zamir, commander of the Israeli military's Southern Command, which includes the border, said on Friday that "we are identifying attempts to carry out terror attacks under the camouflage of riots".

The Palestinian citizens have set up tents on Thursday night, about 700 meters from the borderline with Israel, in eastern Gaza.

The protest is dubbed "The Great March of Return" and has the backing of the Gaza Strip's Islamist rulers Hamas.

The march will begin tomorrow, 30 March, to coincide with what Palestinians call "Land Day" commemorating the day Israeli forces killed six Palestinians during protests against land confiscation in 1976.

Friday's event is planned as the launch of a series of events over the next few weeks, culminating in May when Palestinians commemorate Nakba (catastrophe) day, as Israel celebrates its 70th year of independence and the USA moves its embassy to Jerusalem. They are reportedly in moderate condition; they were wounded in three different areas east of Jabalya and Rafah.

The Hamas resistance movement had called on the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip as well as the West Bank to widely participate in the Land Day protest action on Friday. Another man is in critical condition after being wounded by an Israeli tank shell.

The Palestinians demand this right not only for those of the hundreds of thousands of refugees who are still alive - a figure estimated in the low tens of thousands - but also for their descendants, who number in the millions.
