Prime Minister Theresa May is touring in different parts of the United Kingdom on to mark the one-year anniversary of the Brexit Day, the date Britain is set to formally exit from the European Union (EU).

Instead of determining an annual budget each year, she said, a multi-year funding arrangement will be agreed so health chiefs have more certainty and stability from year to year.

May visited a parent-and-toddler group in the northeastern English city of Newcastle, met farmers near the Northern Irish town of Bangor, and she spoke to Welsh business representatives in the resort town of Barry - all on the same day. "The Government's Industrial Strategy, published past year, and the accompanying Automotive Sector Deal recognise this, but cross-Government policies must align to deliver on the ambition".

The prime minister secured last week the EU's agreement to start talks on a future relationship, but uncertainties remain over the first negotiations to be completed, over the divorce itself. "I am determined that as we leave the EU, and in the years ahead, we will strengthen the bonds that unite us, because ours is the world's most successful union", she said. To fail to provide them with the education and support they need will short-change the nation in the long term.

Prime Minister Theresa May said today that leaving the European Union will mean more money available to spend on priorities like the NHS and schools.

While today is a symbolic milestone, Mrs May will be looking ahead to the key date of October - by which time the European Union has said it wants to see a final Brexit deal completed.
