The Babies R Us website will be open for a "limited time", with no specific end date.

"We're a relatively small company, and, you know, to have $4 million of cash just suddenly disappear in thin air, it was a scary proposition", he said.

There are 10 Toys R' Us and Babies R' Us locations around the Bay area. I remember being little and getting their catalogs at Christmastime and my brother and I going through them, circling everything that we wanted.

The company said "unforeseen circumstances" caused the delay.

The company had been struggling in recent years due to competition from retailers like Target and Walmart and online shopping at places like Amazon. But the company later revealed it would close all of its USA stores, affecting the jobs of thousands of retail workers.

Toys "R" Us entered bankruptcy back in September, and on March 14 the company announced it would shutter or sell all 735 of its stores in the United States.

Expecting parents who have already set up a baby registry at Babies "R" Us will be able to access it until the webstore stays open. But this morning, all of that was cleared up as the store began their sale.

Toys "R" Us didn't say exactly when it would be closing down for good, but the company is expected to begin liquidation sales at its stores on Friday.

Toys "R" Us will start liquidation sales on Thursday
Pretty much everything in the store will sell, with most locations kicking off their sales from tomorrow through June. The plan for KB Toys is to open up 1,000 pop up stores for the holiday shopping season this year, according to CNN.

Lazarus first started a baby furniture business in Washington, 1948 to cater to the post-war baby boom.

"I'm very sad about it", said Sherry Miller of Peabody, referring to the impending closure, as she pushed her nearly 3-month-old daughter, Lexie, in a carriage outside Toys R Us.

"It's too bad, the company didn't need to go bankrupt - I don't get how these private equity firms are allowed to pursue these strategies that take the value out and crush what is left with debt", said Bushell. I'm not even kidding you.

Lazarus no longer held a stake in the chain.

"More bankruptcies are putting further pressure on big box market rents", the note said.

Sy Galley said the large scale loss of jobs will also be sad. "I've been bringing him here for a long time. It's like a staple".

Lazarus, the son of a bicycle store owner, modeled his business after the self-service supermarkets that were becoming popular in the 1950s, stacking merchandise high to give shoppers the feeling it had an infinite number of toys.

Use your gift cards now. He stopped by to see if he could find bargains on toys such as Nerf products, which his kids love, but noted that kids like his aren't quite as used to trips to the toy store in the age of Amazon, where it's convenient and low-priced to order online.
