"Friday is a change day as a stalled front over the North East begins to push back south west with rain turning to sleet and snow by evening".

"As we get closer to the weekend, colder air will see the temperatures drop considerably".

"This will lower temperatures over the weekend".

A front moving from the south-west towards the north-east is set to bring heavy rain on Wednesday and Thursday along with strong winds.

"This band will gradually ease during Saturday morning, allowing ice to form as it clears".

The Met Office has forecast a return to colder temperatures later this week.

The first warning comes into effect on Friday at 3pm, and lasts until just before midnight.

On Sunday, snow showers will continue which could prove disruptive.

Snow showers will become prolonged, lasting well into the evening.

Drivers have been warned by the RAC that they should ensure they are ready for potentially unsafe road conditions.
