Our own Kevin Kilbane was at Old Trafford and joined us at full time to sum up a disappointing night for Jose Mourinho and his team who were hoping for a deep run in the competition this season.

Marouane Fellaini has silenced his critics during his five years at Manchester United, but when handed his first start since November for a crucial Champions League second-leg tie, it sums up precisely where the team is right now under Mourinho.

During his spells with Porto, Chelsea, Inter and Real Madrid, Mourinho has developed a reputation as the master of stifling the opposition before striking at the most opportune moment, but the tables were turned in dramatic fashion here.

Manchester City and Liverpool both secured big away wins to put their respective ties to bed with 90 minutes still to play, yet United approached a trip to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan with a more safety-first style and secured just a 0-0 draw. "We lost, that's football".

In the 74th minute, Ben Yedder broke the deadlock just two minutes after coming off the bench. And after replacing the ineffective Muriel, he scored two goals with his first two touches at Old Trafford.

Yet, the Belgian almost made the breakthrough with United's best move of the opening period when he latched onto Alexis Sanchez's layoff and his powerful effort was turned behind by Sergio Rico.

Mourinho's gamble on Fellaini appeared to have largely backfired as he failed to impose his physical presence on Sevilla's ball players in midfield.

Romelu Lukaku reduced United's arrears, but it was too little, too late with Mourinho's decision to once again drop Paul Pogba certain to be scrutinised.

Manchester United: De Gea, Valencia (c), Bailly, Smalling, Young, Matic, Fellaini, Lingard, Alexis, Rashford and Lukaku. "We are not the only team that invests money in players".

Four minutes later he doubled Sevilla's advantage with a header at the back post which the crossed the line after hitting the underside of the bar despite De Gea's efforts.
