Google Lens rolls out to all Android users with Photos

Google has announced there will be five Android P Developer Previews ahead of a final release in "Q3". The new version will include several new tools for developers and features for end users.

Previously available only for owners of the Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, Google's AI camera feature, Google Lens is now available for more devices. Google calls this a "display cutout for camera and speaker".

According to Google, the team also worked hard to address several of the top reported issues that came from user feedback.

Google has outlined the entire process on its developer website.

The Google Lens requires you to focus your camera towards the object you want information about, it can be a building, a famous celebrity or something rare. This makes things much easier for the end user as it improves the user experience.

With machine-learning algorithm integrated into Google Lens, it is intelligent enough to perceive what pictures the phone user is capturing and provide information of the subject such as an old forgotten celebrity, a locale or a music album cover in the photo. Is Google Lens helpful, you may ask? For instance, in our Google Pixel 2 XL, when asked to scan a photo of a Galaxy S9, it only shows the result as smartphone. The roll out is now for Android only, but Google says that iOS users will get Lens in Google Photos soon as well.

The Android P Developer Preview one is now official and available to download for anyone that is looking to get their hands on the latest software from Google. Android P will let apps manage how the content is displayed on devices with a notch on the front.

A whole host of other improvements will be included, ranging from things like better, more consistent fingerprint security support to a default Network Security Configuration that blocks cleartext traffic. The company says they will continue this effort and promises more samples using Kotlin will be added very soon.
