Cynthia Nixon, the flame-haired star of "Sex in the City", says she is still giving serious consideration to a Democratic primary run against Gov. Andrew Cuomo this year.

Nixon has been working with two consultants with Mayor de Blasio's political team - Rebecca Katz and Bill Hyers, the station reported.

Cuomo, a Democrat, is still popular, but is viewed as vulnerable because of his his frayed relationship with New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and because of the city's constant transit issues.

Cynthia Nixon, who played Miranda Hobbes on HBO's "Sex and the City", is reportedly considering challenging New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo in his bid for re-election this year.

Mr. Cuomo brushed off Ms. Nixon's possible challenge, and the involvement of former de Blasio operatives, in an unrelated conference call with reporters on Tuesday.

Just months before, while appearing on The View, she criticized Cuomo for, as she said, "shortchanging the children of NY".

If Nixon were to run and win, she would make history two times over, as the state's first openly bisexual and first female governor. However, polls indicate that he is still popular among Democratic voters in NY.

"If and when such a decision is made, Cynthia will be sure to make her plans public", her publicist told The Times.

"I think it was probably either the Mayor of NY or Vladimir Putin", Cuomo said with a chuckle.

Cuomo faced a challenge in 2014 from the left when a then-unknown Fordham University professor, Zephyr Teachout, garnered a surprising 34 percent in the Democratic primary even though she ran a bare-bones campaign.

Cuomo has already announced he will seek a third term in November and is a potential 2020 presidential candidate.

"Taking our country back is going to require all of us to step up and take action - including more women, people of color, queer people, and first-generation Americans running for office", actress Cynthia Nixon tweeted in late January.

"In this business, you can't let these things bother you, " he said. Nixon's name recognition and celebrity status could mean she has a real shot at unseating the incumbent.
