Polling was held for 59 of 60 Assembly seats in each of the three states for different reasons. "Though the pre-scheduled voting hours ended at 4 p.m, a huge number of voters were still in queues at a large number of polling stations across the state", said an Election Department official. Meghalya and Nagaland assembly polls were held on February 27.

"There is no doubt that the eighth Left Front government would be formed after the counting of votes on Saturday".

The exit polls have predicted an end to the 25-year-longLeft rule in Tripura. People strongly wish for a BJP government in Tripura.

The party had contested 50 seats in the last assembly polls in 2013 and its candidates forfeited their deposits on 49 seats.

The NPP, if manages to win half the seats in Garo Hills, can make up for the remaining seats in Khasi-Jaintia Hills where the Congress seems to have revived after series of serious initial setbacks.

Balloting in the Charilam (reserved for the tribals) has been deferred to March 12 after the death of a CPI-M candidate. Now led by former Cabinet minister AL Hek, even if it gets a handful of seats it can use its power at the Centre and presence in neighbouring states, Assam and most recently in Manipur, to prevent the Congress or any other non-BJP alternative to form a government. All the three states have 60 assembly seats each but elections were held in only 59 constituencies.

Which are the prominent parties in Tripura election 2018?

The Centre for Voting Opinion and Trends in Election Research (CVoter), a Delhi-based global polling agency, hinted at a close finish in Tripura and predicted that the CPM and Left parties would win in 26 to 34 seats with a 44.3 per cent vote share. Congress has fielded candidates only in 18 seats, while BJP is contesting in 20 seats.

The Trinamool Congress has fielded 24 candidates.

Four prominent parties are fighting the poll battle in Meghalaya - Indian National Congress (INC), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), National People's Party (NPP) and United Democratic Party (UDP).

In Meghalaya, the election was countermanded in Williamnagar in the wake of the killing of NCP candidate Jonathone N Sangma in an IED blast, while in Nagaland, Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party Chief Neiphiu Rio was declared elected unopposed from the Northern Angami-II constituency. Congress is likely to grab power on 0-2 seats and others are likely to retain 5-7 seats. C-Voter predicts that the Grand Old Party will get 36.5 per cent of votes, and 13 to 19 seats. It has given the Left 14-23 seats with vote share of 45-46 per cent. Political observers believe a good show by the NPP and the BJP will open the possibility of a post-poll alliance between these two parties.

The CVoter survey has predicted a victory for the BJP-NDPP with the combine likely to get 25-31 seats with 38.4 per cent vote share.
