This gets announced by the New York State Department of Health last week that the tourist who visited these two boroughs and to many tourist locations as well, between Feb 16 and Feb 21 has been diagnosed with measles.

The virus can remain alive in the air and on surfaces for up to two hours after an infected individual leaves an area. Symptoms include a fever, rash, cough, runny nose and eyes, and generally begin 10-12 days after exposure to the measles.

The risk of developing measles is low, especially for those who have been vaccinated, but it is notoriously contagious for those who are not immune.

Unfortunately, the occasional case of measles continues to be imported into the states, including NY.
