For the US, slopestyle gold medalist Jamie Anderson and 17-year-old Hailey Langland, who has won this event at the X Games, are strong contenders.

Pre-event favorites Norway trailed nearly three seconds behind to settle for bronze.

Kikkan Randall plowed a lonely furrow in USA cross country skiing for years, but her diligence was rewarded on Wednesday when relay team mate Jessica Diggins dug deep to deliver the gold she had dreamed of since her first Olympics in 2002.

Kikkan Randall and Jessie Diggins made history during the Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea, becoming the first Americans winning an Olympic gold in women cross country skiing.

Diggins, ranked third in the world, also has three fifth-place finishes and one sixth in PyeongChang.

Randall and Diggins join Bill Koch as the only American skiers to win Olympic medals in the sport.
