"There is no recovery for someone falsely accused - life and career are gone", Trump tweeted.

In the tweet on Saturday, Trump wrote that "some [allegations] are true and some are false".

But Kelly's hold on his post seemed the shakiest since he took the job in July, in part because several West Wing aides have had their faith shaken by his handling of the Porter accusations.

The senators also question whether Porter, who served as Trump's staff secretary, disclosed the allegations on his applications for a security clearance or White House employment. "Now, he also says he's innocent, and I think you have to remember that ... but we absolutely wish him well".

Spokesman Raj Shah said the White House learned Thursday night about the allegations before being contacted by the media.

Trump's comments Friday were a sharp contrast to those of Vice President Mike Pence, who told NBC's Lester Holt "there's no tolerance in this White House and no place in America for domestic abuse". And we hope he has a wonderful career, and hopefully he will have a great career ahead of him. The staff secretary resigned later Wednesday.

Hicks reportedly knew about the allegations but continued to date Porter, and did not make the president aware of the developments. In a written statement sent through the White House press office Wednesday, Porter said he took those photos, but that "the reality behind them is nowhere close to what is being described", he said.
