On Friday afternoon, Met Éireann issued their latest batch of seemingly never-ending weather warnings and no county in the Republic of Ireland is being let off the hook.

The rain will clear eastwards early tonight and winds will ease somewhat, however, wintry showers will move in from the west, turning increasingly to snow overnight.

But that won't last long with temperatures dropping tomorrow to below 6C in the south and even lower in other areas of the country.

Frosty and snowy showers will give predicted accumulation of 3 cm of snow, with a larger amount of snowfall expected on mountainous areas and on higher ground.

Tomorrow Sunday will be a cold, bright day with sunny spells.

Saturday night will be windy, with wintry showers developing overnight.

Monday is forecast to be relatively calm, but will be followed by four days of heavy rain and bitter winds and temperatures across Britain plummet towards sub zero.

"This will result in falling temperatures and icy patches are likely to develop on some untreated surfaces, especially where any wintry showers lead to wash off of previous treatment". However, fresh, gusty, southerly winds will cause temperatures to rise, which will clear any frost. On Tuesday night, frost and ice will develop for a time.

Heavy rain is to first hit parts of the country on Saturday afternoon, before wintry weather affects the majority of Scotland at various times over the weekend. Rain and strong southerly winds will spread from the west overnight.
