Opposition: Netanyahu 'acting like a criminal' in attack on police chief

Israel's police chiefs will recommend indicting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli media reported. If Netanyahu serves his fourth mandate, which expires on July 16, 2019, in full, he will tie with David Ben-Gurion to become the longest-serving Prime Minister in Israel's history. "Instead of requesting that they wrap up the investigation as soon as possible, Netanyahu has chosen to attack the police commissioner, and by doing so, he is trying to dismantle peoples' trust in the legal system".

Israeli law allows the prime minister to receive "small" and "reasonable" gifts, but there is some gray area as to what gifts fall under this purview. "The state prosecutor recently said in the Knesset that about half of the police's recommendations end with nothing", Netanyahu said Wednesday.

In Case 1000, Netanyahu is suspected of having received gifts from businessmen overseas, including cigars for himself and champagne for his wife, Sara.

The conservative Prime Minister faces two criminal investigations, the details of which have been widely reported in Israeli media. Neither set of recommendations ripened into charges, with attorneys general citing insufficient evidence to indict.

Israeli Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit, a Netanyahu appointee, has been accused of dragging his feet on the investigations.

Wynn Resorts Board Gets Scrutiny After Steve Wynn's Resignation
Wynn stepped down as the finance chairman on the Republican National Committee last month after the allegations surfaced. The Wynn Resorts board of directors announced company president Matt Maddox as new CEO with immediate effect.

The statement comes in the wake of the Monday interview of Roni Alsheich, a police commissioner, who said that Netanyahu tried to discredit the corruption probe by sending private detectives tasked to nose out dirt on investigators.

Another probe was over secret talks with the publisher of a major Israeli newspaper in which Netanyahu allegedly requested positive coverage in exchange for reining in a free pro-Netanyahu daily.

A separate investigation is also underway in which Netanyahu allies have been questioned by police over the purchase of German submarines.

The 68-year-old premier has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing and says he is being targeted by political opponents.

Netanyahu told the heads of the ministries he ordered the freeze after receiving a call about the issue of exporting marijuana from Trump, who is against its legalization.
