Reddit's deepfake subreddits, where the AI-built porn really took off, is still running and has thousands of subscribers, and shows no signs of slowing down. The practice is obviously done without the celebrity's consent, leading many opponents of the videos to classify them in the same league as revenge porn. It might not matter whether Twitter can actually get rid of deepfakes posters, though. "We will also suspend any account dedicated to posting this type of content". But even beyond the porn angle, the machine learning technology that makes these kind of manipulated videos work will only grow more sophisticated over time, making it even harder for internet-goers to determine what's real and what's fabricated.

Now, AI-assisted porn is spreading all over Reddit, thanks to an easy-to-use app that can be downloaded directly to your desktop computer, to Motherboard.

As all of this is freely available information, it could be done without that person's consent.

Social media platforms Twitter and Reddit have followed suit.

Pornhub, which counts over 75 million visitors per day, said that it is banning the use of deepfakes as they believe it to be nonconsensual, placing it in the same category as revenge porn.

Spider fossils with whip-like tails are challenging what scientists previously thought they knew about the origin of arachnids. Another distinctive feature is that uraraneids had plates on their bellies instead of the squishy abdomens seen in spiders.

That aspect of it has now led to the removal of the Deepfakes subreddit, which was banned earlier this afternoon for violating Reddit's "policy against involuntary pornography".

The firm said that, in general, when users flag content that directly violates Pornhub's terms of service, it's 'removed as soon as we are made aware of it'.

Despite this stance, Motherboard notes that Pornhub is still packed with deepfakes, with dozens uploaded to the site over the past few days.

The fight against "deepfake" porn now has another enemy: Twitter.

The algorithms used to power deepfakes videos are also being used to create doctored versions of popular movie scenes, as well as videos showing politicians and other high-profile officials in fake situations.
