Google to purchase Chelsea Market constructing for $2B

Google whose parent company is named as Alphabet, is about to buy New York City's historic Chelsea Market building as reported by Real Deal on Tuesday. It's located right across the street from the company's NYC headquarters.

The tech giant - which is already the largest tenant in the former Nabisco factory at 75 Ninth Ave. - is buying the 1.2-million-square-foot office-and-retail property from Jamestown, an Atlanta-based real-estate investment firm, insiders told The Post.

Google is reportedly expanding its bandwith in Chelsea.

The deal, which looks to be the first billion-dollar-plus trade to go under contract this year in NY, is slated to close in two months, according to sources familiar with the transaction. Google has agreed to pay more than $2 billion for the building as a part of an ambitious expansion plan. The building is famously known for its first-floor food court, which attracts around six million visitors annually, according to its website. Real estate operator Jamestown is said to be close to agreeing to sell the property, with the transaction itself being expected to be completed by April.

Google's reported plans for the space are now unclear.
