G Suite users can comment directly on files, call out co-workers or assign tasks without having to convert the documents to Docs, Sheets or other Google files or open other tools to complete tasks. This is great because it's fewer tabs and fewer apps, both of which are wthings I'd prefer. That's not quite the real-time commenting feature you get from G Suite or Office 365, but it's still better than having to constantly convert documents back and forth between Office and G Suite. With this new feature, you no longer need other tools to interact with this type of content and this makes using Google Drive in corporate environments, a little bit easier.

Google Drive has received a new update today which is going to make it easier for users who rely on Google Drive to collaborate on projects to use a mix of Microsoft Office and G Suite while going about their work. Google says this emphasizes their focus on offering "interoperability between G Suite and Microsoft Office products". Microsoft yesterday began a temporary offer to give companies using Google, Box or Dropbox free access to OneDrive for Business for the remainder of their contracts with the other file sharing providers, essentially buying them out from competitors. Google also offers a Drive plugin allows users to attach files stored in its cloud-based storage service to emails created in Microsoft's Outlook software. Additionally, comments made in Drive Preview will be exported to the underlying file so that when you open up the file using the local client application, you will be able to see the comments made in Drive Preview. It's also possible to edit Microsoft files without converting them fully using the Office Compatibility Mode in Docs, Sheets or Slides.
