Central Intelligence Agency director expects Russian Federation to meddle in midterm elections

The US spy chief said "countries could collectively do more to combat Chinese efforts to exert power over the West".

USA intelligence chief Pompeo said Russian Federation would try to influence the midterm elections.

Sharing the concerns in many European countries about Moscow's subversion, the Central Intelligence Agency chief said: "I haven't seen a significant decrease in their activity".

Pompeo further informed that that the Chinese "have a much bigger footprint" than the Russians do, as an example he quoted the efforts to steal United States commercial information and infiltration of schools and hospitals.

Pompeo said that even though there has been co-operation in counter-terrorism efforts between Washington and Russian Federation, he still saw Moscow primarily as an "adversary".

In an interview with a BBC correspondent Mike Pompeo repeatedly stressed that while the Russian interference in matters of United States has been a long standing debate, the interference of the Chinese is something that needs to be given more focus at the time.

He also said the Chinese posed a threat of equal concern and are "very active" with a world-class cyber capability.

He then brought up the efforts put to get hold of United States commercial information and access to hospitals and schools, efforts which reached the UK and Europe.

During the BBC interview, Mr Pompeo also commented on his working relationship with President Trump - saying he provides the US President with intelligence briefings nearly every day the two men are in Washington DC. "Whatever the facts may be we deliver them unvarnished as accurately and as forcefully as we can".
