Audiobooks now officially available on Google Play Books

You can pick up where you left off no matter what device you're using, with the Assistant or the Google Play Books app-on Android, iOS, Chromecast, Android Wear, Android Auto or even your laptop.

Starting this week, users in 45 countries will be able to buy audiobooks in nine languages from Google's Play mobile app store. You can preview a book to first, and only if you are hooked on to the story or enjoy listening to the narrator's voice, you are required to pay a fee to buy the audiobook.

The books - offered through Google Play Books and on devices like Google Assistant and Google Home - will enable consumers to upload and listen to an audio book at home, on the go with an Android or iOS device, and, perhaps, in a auto equipped with Google Assistant. Like all its services, these audiobooks are integrated with the Google Assistant; allowing people to start - or continue - listening to their favourite books without having to touch the smartphone.

The Audiobooks section on Google Play is going live right now, and the company is offering a 50% discount on your first book. They can also be shared with your family through Family library for free across different devices. Google audiobooks are for book lovers who find it hard to manage time to complete reading their books.

Unlike some audiobook services, you don't need a subscription to be able to listen to the titles that you want. It will be coming soon to the Assistant on Android Auto in the U.S., the company said.

Google Play Books group product manager Greg Hartrell said the company's latest addition was created to let readers tune into their favourite stories "throughout their day" using whatever technology was nearest.
