In response to the lapse in federal appropriations, Grand Teton National Park is implementing its plan for a government shutdown.

In New Mexico, parts of Bandelier National Monument's cliff dwellings and fragile archaeological sites were off-limits to protect them from damage, but the entrance road and some trails were open. Gift shops, restaurants and other concessionaires inside parks may be permitted to continue operations as long as they remove snow and trash without government staff.

Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area, Devils Tower National Monument, Fossil Butte National Monument, and Fort Laramie National Historic site are all closed and access is limited in some cases.
