North Dakota State avenges loss to James Madison to win FCS championship

"Go Bison" was the chant heard around the metro as NDSU took their sweet revenge on James Madison, bringing the FCS Championship trophy back to Fargo.

North Dakota State got on the board first in the game with a 3-yard touchdown run from Anderson, followed by a 31-yard field goal by James Madison's Ethan Ratke to bring the score to 7-3. Asked what he could take from that game, Bison coach Chris Klieman said, "Nothing, really".

This year the teams seem evenly matched in all phases, including the presence of two veteran quarterbacks who have combined to win 62 games. "Getting up at five in the morning, lifting weights 360 days a year, I mean they work hard and they should be patted on the back and recognized every time we see them", Mclaughlin said.

It's not quite as cold as it was previous year in Texas, as the temperatures were in the high 40's on Thursday, and it's expected to be in the mid-50's on Saturday for the FCS national championship game.

Both teams have moved on from a rash of injuries.

NDSU - Derrek Tuszka had 6 tackles and 2 sacks.

JMU senior defensive end Andrew Ankrah says, "If you give him time in the pocket to throw dropback passes, he'll make you play". A sixth Bison title would tie Georgia Southern for the most in FCS history.

Friction in Frisco: Tailgaters kicked out of lot due to security issues

The rematch goes to North Dakota State.

"Oh no doubt", says Houston. "And they wanted to leave a legacy, and they left a legacy for the 2017 Bison. There's no doubt. And we're excited about it too". "We felt like we'd get that look from them". I'm so proud of the guys.

"(James Madison University) is such a special community, not just football", Schor said. "You play it to get into these games, and have these moments with your teammates, and it's going to be a great game".

James Madison, with all of the momentum on its side, advanced the ball to the 19-yard line with 1:53 left, but its only positive gain on the ensuing four plays earned one yard.

North Dakota State is 13-1, with the lone loss coming to South Dakota State, a team JMU beat by 35 points this year in national semifinals.

Kickoff is set for Saturday at 10 a.m. on ESPN2 from the outskirts of Dallas in Frisco, Texas.
