Your iPhones, iPads and MacBooks are vulnerable to hackers, Apple warns

Following the revelation that serious security flaws have been discovered in processors designed by Intel, AMD, and ARM, Apple has confirmed that all of its iPhones, iPads, and Macs are affected.

Apple explains that, since exploiting this issue requires a malicious app to be loaded onto your device, it recommends users only download software from "trusted sources such as the App Store".

Just hours after a computer chip flaw exposed majority of smartphones, computers, cloud storage, tablets and laptops to malicious activities, Apple today admitted that all of its iPhones, iPads and computers have been affected by the processor flaw, which could leave it vulnerable to hackers.

Apple's statement also said there are no known exploits now impacting customers.

The tech development expert has said the Apple watch isn't affected by Meltdown and that it has already released updates to protect other products from that problem. The company's full statement, available through a new support document covering Meltdown and Spectre, is below: Security researchers have recently uncovered security issues known by two names, Meltdown and Spectre. Apple said it would issue a patch to its Safari web browser for those devices "in the coming days". Ben Johnson, co-founder and chief strategist for cyber security firm Carbon Black, said the delay in updating customers about whether Apple's devices are at risk could affect Apple's drive to get more business customers to adopt its hardware.

Apple gave users this advice in a blog post: 'These issues apply to all modern processors and affect almost all computing devices and operating systems. We continue to develop and test further mitigations for these issues and will release them in upcoming updates of iOS, macOS, tvOS, and watchOS.

Shortly after the researchers disclosed the chip flaws on Wednesday, Google and Microsoft released statements telling users which of their products were affected.

This flaw is more difficult to take advantage of than Meltdown, but is also a lot harder to fix. The company has also issued updates on iOS, MacOS, tvOS to protect customers against these flaws.

The flaws were discovered by researchers at Google and academic institutions previous year but were kept secret.
