Troy Police Chief James Tedesco said that the murder was "the worst we've experienced".

Troy police on Thursday identified the victims as 36-year-old Shanta Myers; her children, 11-year-old Jeremiah Myers and 5-year-old Shanise Myers; and Myers' lover, 22-year-old Brandi Mells. They were all found bound and killed inside their home on Tuesday.

Police said they do not have any motive for the brutal killings, but are confident there isn't another suspect. Tedesco says he has "never seen savagery like this" in 42 years in law enforcement. Myers had a 15-year-old son who was out of town on a retreat at the time of the murders. "The emotions of a police officer are something you repress because there is a job to be done", Tedesco said, adding that no one involved in this case will ever forget it. Their bodies were discovered days later on December 26, by the property manager. Police responded to the building on Second Avenue in Troy, a city eight miles northeast of Albany, about 12:50 p.m. Robinson knew Myers as a bus monitor for many years for the Troy school system's bus service. "People are very nervous, very concerned that the person who did this crime is still loose", said the Rev. Jackie Robinson, a member of the city's African American Pastoral Alliance.
