"Star Wars: The Last Jedi" ruled the box office roost for a second-straight weekend, as the $103 million it took in brought its USA gross to about $400 million, according to Box Office Pro.

Overall, the movie is expected to make $750 million to $800 million in the United States and Canada and a similar amount overseas to reach the projected $1.6 billion total. The eighth installment in the Disney-owned space saga is expected to add another almost $69 million to its coffers over the weekend, according to studio estimates Sunday.

A pair of critically panned new musicals followed: Universal's "Pitch Perfect 3" opened in third place with $20.4 million and Fox's "The Greatest Showman" debuted in fourth with $8.6 million. Father Figures (aka Bastards) received a slightly better score from moviegoers (B-), however it failed to find an audience interested in checking out a raunchy R-rated comedy over the holidays, with its domestic gross a dismal $4.9 million. Seventh-place finisher Coco continues to bring in steady returns, earning $7.4 million to bring its five-week total to $163.5 million.
