The protest is organized by Progressive Manchester.

Net neutrality means Internet service providers should enable access to all content and applications regardless of the source, and without favoring or blocking particular products or websites.

Protestors targeted Verizon stores because Ajit Pai, the current chairman of the FCC, previously served as associate general counsel at Verizon, which has been a longtime opponent of net neutrality.

"Net neutrality is a set of policies that constraints Internet access providers from discriminating against certain types of content and certain types of devices or certain types of content providers", Bauer said.

Valerie Walker of Indivisible Bangor said, "The best outcome would be for net neutrality rules to stay in place and not have our internet privatized".

It took years to pass regulation to ensure net neutrality, and we must not let it be destroyed by those aiming to increase their wealth beyond their already-unfathomable levels, nor can we allow those seeking to roll back everything passed during the Obama administration, destroying the most widespread, widely available communications system in human history.

Professor and Chairperson for the Department of Media and Information Johannes Bauer explained what net neutrality exactly is.

Although these reasons may be beneficial to some, Bauer said there's also a downside to Net Neutrality being repealed. When asked why he was protesting, he said "to see who else is going to bother showing up". Two employees, one in an Android mascot costume, even stood near protesters for a while, waving at cars.
