In a press release, Sony has announced that worldwide sales of the PS4 have cumulatively reached over 70.6 million units, as of December 3rd, 2017 (sales in this case being sell-through of systems to consumers, not "shipped" to retailers).

When it comes to PlayStation VR, the hardware's latest sales feat certainly indicates a growing interest in the medium, especially since it nearly took a full year for the headset to hit 1 million units after its release.

As of December 3, the PlayStation 4 has cumulatively sold though more than 70.6 million units to consumers worldwide with over 617 million copes of PlayStation 4 games sold at retail stores and in the PlayStation digital store.

Good figures all-round, but the PS4 still has some some catching up to do if wants to compete with its great-grandfather and grandfather.

Sony only passed 1 million sales in June, so the uptick has been significant in the last few months. Think it can do it?
