Tom Brady reacts to Eli Manning's benching

Reese had already spoken to McAdoo about the same thing and the second-year coach decided to make the move Tuesday, after the Giants (2-9) returned from an extended Thanksgiving weekend break.

Instead, Smith will try to propel the Giants to a win Sunday when he starts his first game since October 23, 2016. He thought the 36-year-old face of the franchise would accept starting his 211th consecutive game on Sunday, then handing off to Smith in second half.

Although there is no uneasiness at the moment with his standing within the organization, things could certainly pick up over once the 2017 season ends.

Although many players have ripped the Giants for benching Manning, Strahan's words might burn a little more since he's one of the most prolific players in team history. "But I understand his feeling, and I respect his decision", Mara said. The Giants have had a woeful season at 2-9 and Manning has clearly not played up to his two-time Super Bowl-winning standard.

"You know that's really everything you want in an National Football League player, and I think Eli has always provided that for the team".

"It's fair to say I have gotten a lot of feedback from fans and they are not happy", he said.

Duke grad students protest proposed GOP tax plan
Schwartz said that unlike corporations and the wealthy, graduate students don't have lobbies to represent them in Washington, D.C. Under the House tax plan, my take-home pay would be $2,000 a month, and I'm not sure I could creatively budget around that.

Los Angeles Chargers QB Philip Rivers, who was in the same draft class as Manning in 2004 (and was part of a draft-day deal which sent Manning to New York) and has spent his entire career in the Chargers organization, voiced his opinion as well.

"You have to take the emotions out of it", he said.

The decision to put Manning on the bench also brought statements from former teammates, including Hall of Famer Michael Strahan.

However, Brady added that he's not surprised by the situation, as things like this happen pretty often to the best players in professional sports. "I don't think there's any player, current or former, who feels like this is right". Manning isn't the first or last athlete to have the final stages of his career not end in a fairytale manner, in a ride-off-into-the-sunset sort of way.

The New York Giants have been making mistakes all season.
