The censor board has a job which it should be allowed to do, the Centre said on Tuesday even as the row over Padmavati raged on with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath claiming that director Sanjay Leela Bhansali was no less guilty than the fringe groups extending threats to him and actor Deepika Padukone.

The reasons range from the picturisation of film's song, Ghoomar, to alleging that the film is distorting history. A few khaps, Rajputs and other organizations also burn the effigy of Bhansali.

The Chief Minister made it clear that he was totally opposed to the threats being issued by certain hardline elements to the actors and directors of the film but reiterated that anyone feeling hurt by distortion of historical facts had the right to peaceful agitation.

"On November 25 from Surat a countrywide campaign will start", he said.

Meanwhile yesterday the National Commission for Women (NCW) wrote to the Haryana DGP BS Sandhu seeking action against Amu.
