A day after the BJP announced its first list of 70 candidates for the Gujarat Assembly elections, resentment built up in the party here, leading to vocal protests as well as resignations by many, including some senior party members.

Elections for Gujarat assembly will be carried out in two phases on December 9 and 14. However, the party has opted to not experiment, as it knows that the risk with a known candidates is less than with a new one. In case of difficulties, the list may go to the Congress Working Committee (CWC) convened Monday morning, the sources said. He was busy on Saturday with AICC secretary Rajiv Satav in giving final touches to the list before it is sent to Sonia Gandhi and Rahul for approval.

The list includes Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who has been nominated from Rajkot West seat, Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel (Mehsana), state BJP chief Jitu Vaghani (Bhavnagar West), Revenue minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama (Dholka), Health minister Shankar Chaudhary (Vav), among others.

With this, the BJP has declared contestants for 106 out of total 182 seats.
