Israel has denied the statement about the downed Russian drone

The military said the drone was operated by the Syrian regime and was shot down using a Patriot missile in the demilitarized zone between the countries.

The Patriot is a US -made surface-to-air missile system.

An Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) approached Israel's airspace from Syria on Saturday.

Israel in September also shot down an Iranian-made drone sent by the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah in the same area.

According to reports, the deal includes Iranian proxies fighting on behalf of Syrian President Bashar Assad's regime, which would be required to leave the border area and eventually Syria.

Israel has largely stayed on the sidelines of the Syrian war, but officials have acknowledged carrying out dozens of airstrikes on suspected weapons shipments to Hezbollah.

Also on Sunday, Israel's Foreign Ministry issued a statement calling on the worldwide community "to investigate every instance of the use of chemical weapons and to bring those responsible to justice".

Israel has been lobbying both big powers to deny Iran, Lebanon's Hizbollah and other Shiite militias any permanent bases in Syria, and to keep them away from the Golan, as they gain ground while helping Damascus beat back Sunni-led rebels.

Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman said Israel viewed Saturday's drone incident gravely and would respond to any provocation.
