In addition to offering the newest Disney Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars feature films after they play in theaters, the service will also have four or five exclusive feature films each year, Iger said.

"Our plan on the Disney side is to price this substantially below where Netflix is", Iger said.

In Disney's quarterly earnings call, CEO Bob Iger said that it will create several TV shows that will air exclusively on Disney's streaming service.

Disney (DIS) is set to launch its own streaming service in late 2019.

According to news reports, Disney has held talks in recent weeks about a potential acquisition of most of Twenty-First Century Fox's media assets including FX, National Geographic and its movie studio.

The Marvel/Netflix partnership has given us some of the best stories in the MCU, but it looks that's all about to end as Disney begins its quest for streaming dominance.

Disney plans an aggressive marketing campaign for the channel by pushing the service to its Disney-branded credit card holders, annual Disney park pass holders, members of D23, owners of Disney vacation club units and frequent visitors to the six Disney parks. Its most popular plan, which allows high-definition video streaming on two devices at a time, costs $10.99 a month.

Disney's movie studio was hurt by the underperformance of "Cars 3" and a write-off of almost $98 million on the animated movie "Gigantic", which was previously scheduled for 2020 but was cancelled.

Disney is convinced that we're all going to make the migration though - so convinced that they are apparently spending over $300 million a year on this endeavour. New seasons of Jessica Jones and Luke Cage are in production, and Daredevil and Iron Fist will start filming soon. This will launch before the entertainment-focused service rolls out.
