An Oklahoma woman who last year married her biological mother who'd lost custody of her was sentenced Tuesday to 10 years probation after pleading guilty to incest, PEOPLE confirms.

The same charges were brought against her mother, 44-year-old Patricia Spann, but the woman refused to plead guilty.

Authorities say a state Department of Human Services child welfare investigator discovered information which led them to believe Misty and Patricia Spann were actually involved in an incestuous relationship.

In Oklahoma, incest is a felony crime punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

But in 2014, mother and daughter reunited and Misty said the pair “hit it off” and even discussed adopting a child together.

Patricia genuinely thought she wasn't doing anything wrong because she wasn't legally Misty's mum and had been removed from her daughter's birth certificate.

The 44-year-old also got married to her son in 2008 in Comanche County, however he filed for an annulment after 15 months.

The tragedy occurred at the Banksia Road Public School when the auto collided with a wooden classroom building. It is understood that at least three other children sustained minor injuries, such as broken bones and cuts.

Patricia has pleaded not guilty to incest, and will appear in court for trial at a later date. She reportedly said her mother assured her she had received legal advice that indicated it was not a crime for them to Wednesday.

KOCO 5 reported Patricia's marriages to her children were "all ploys to manipulate state laws".

"Why she chose her daughter, I'm not sure", Smith said. The marriage was annulled in 2010 due to "incest", The Associated Press reported. "She forced my sister into this, there's a lot of people that know it", he said.

Misty Spann also set out to dissolve her and her mother's marriage, filing for an annulment "by reason of illegality and fraud" on September 1, according to online court records.

"If that's what you want that's on you, but none of us kids want that".

Another one of Patricia's sons told a local news station that she tried to have an inappropriate relationship with him as well, but he denied her advances. The Spann children were raised by their paternal grandmother.
