But Face ID for unlocking will make its iPad debut, per Bloomberg's sources, along with improved internal specs, and a brand new version of the Apple Pencil.

Though Kuo didn't mention Face ID specifically, Apple's True Depth cameras are what enable Face ID, Animoji, and other features that take advantage of the iPhone X's depth-sensing selfie camera. Or are there other features you want in your next iPad? Indeed, many people are of the mind that it even works more seamlessly than Touch ID.

The tablet will reportedly launch in 2018 and not only add Face ID, but will have an updated design with "noticeably" smaller bezels than previous iPad Pro models. They asked not to be identified talking about private product development. Apple already reduced the thickness of the edges on the 10.5-inch version vs. the 9.7-inch model it replaced, to maximize screen real estate, and it could go further still with additional space savings from reducing the "chin" of the front of the device.

Bloomberg reports that the new iPad, which will feature a display size "similar" to the 10.5-inch iPad Pro, is likely to be released "later next year". Apple did the same thing with the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus this year.

The iPhone X is without a doubt the most exciting new iPhone release we've seen in years. Speaking of screens, this is a potential point of delineation between Apple's next flagship tablet and its new, almost all-screen smartphone: it won't utilize OLED screen technology, but will instead likely stick with a tried-and-true LCD panel.

After years in steady decline, the iPad has bounced back to post year-on-year growth in the last couple of quarters.

Apple allegedly still sees the iPad as the future of mainstream computing and continues investment in the series.
