Austin authorities say 3 shot by gunman dressed as Santa

The suspect in an early morning shooting at a Halloween party in Austin was dressed as Santa Claus when the incident unfolded, police said, CBS affiliate KEYE reports.

A man in his twenties and a woman in her thirties were taken to the hospital with critical injuries, while another woman in her thirties had serious injuries.

Austin Police Detective Lee Knouse said in a press conference that around 6:12 a.m., Austin PD was alerted to a shooting at a private residence where a Halloween party was taking place.

The victims were described as two women in their 30s and a man in his 20s.

Police say the suspect, who was wearing a Santa Claus costume, was known to the victims.

In addition to Austin police, city firefighters and state authorities responded to the scene. Three were seriously wounded, but the injuries aren't believed to be life-threatening.

The suspect, who had not been identified as of this writing, also received medical treatment for unspecified injuries.

Knouse said charges are likely but could not provide details, citing an ongoing investigation.
