Two bodies recovered from missing men's sunken trawler, debris hampers search

Divers found the bodies of the two men in the capsized trawler's wreckage on Saturday.

The trawler is on the ocean floor in 30 metres of water.

Police said they would continue to search for the remaining crew on Sunday, adding that their efforts were being hampered by debris and poor visibility.

Police divers could only spend 13 minutes underwater at a time on Saturday, and the last dive was conducted about 4.30pm.

Police divers attempted to reach the vessel on Saturday morning, hoping to recover the bodies of the men still missing.

AFTER police confirmed one of the men found in the sunken fishing trawler, Dianne, was Ben Leahy, his family have released some touching words about what a "unique character" he was.

The second body recovered from the vessel has yet to be formally identified.

In a statement, Adam Hoffman's family said their "hearts are broken".

The search will resume at first light for the four crew still missing after their fishing trawler overturned off the Queensland coast a week ago.

"The vessel was detected by sonar approximately 2-3 nautical miles off Round Hill Headland", Police said in a statement.

"Police are working hard to ensure the families of Adam Bidner, Zachary Feeney, Adam Hoffman, Ben Leahy, Chris Sammut and Eli Tonks can get some measure of closure", police said.

Crewman Ruben McDornan appears to be the sole survivor of the tragedy, enduring 12 hours in open water before being rescued by a passing yacht.

Police are asking beachgoers who find items that may belong to the ship to photograph them, capture Global Positioning System coordinates with their smartphones, and if possible, take them home and notify police.

EARLIER @ October 19, 7.20am: THE desperate search for six men, missing at sea after their trawler capsized off the central Queensland coast, is entering its third day.

Police say today's coordinated search will involve up to twelve water vessels, two helicopters, two fixed wing aircraft and numerous vehicles patrolling the shoreline in the search area.
