It has been five days since Florida Rep. Frederica Wilson revealed that Donald Trump completely botched his phone call to the widow of Sgt.

Reid, 77, who left the Senate in January after 30 years, was referring to Kelly's appearance in the White House briefing room on Thursday, at which he defended how Trump handled a call this week to the widow of one of the four USA servicemen killed this month during a raid in Niger. A Florida congresswoman said previously that Trump made the statement to Myeshia Johnson on Tuesday during a telephone call as she was on the way to Miami International Airport to meet the body of her husband, Sgt.

"The Fake News is going insane with wacky Congresswoman Wilson (D), who was SECRETLY on a very personal call, and gave a total lie on content!" the president wrote.

The White House is defending chief of staff John Kelly after he mischaracterized the remarks of a Democratic congresswoman and called her an "empty barrel" making noise.

Video of the Federal Bureau of Investigation office dedication in Miami, from the archives of South Florida's Sun-Sentinel, shows that Wilson never mentioned the building's funding, though she did recount at length her efforts to help name the building in honor of the special agents. Wilson suggested that it was the White House, and not her, that was adding to a grieving family's anguish.

Trump on Saturday also endorsed a wild theory from Twitter use Eagle Pundit, who believes Wilson's recent comments are some last ditch effort by Dems to distract from Hillary Clinton's ties to Putin.

Reid also criticized Trump's Twitter habit and what he said it's done to society: "World peace. But he can't just go on TV and lie on me". Jones-Johnson said she did not record the conversation.

Kelly's speech was a rebuke to Wilson, who was in the vehicle with the family of Johnson when Trump called on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, said Reid, recipients of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA - the Obama-era immigration policy that allows some individuals brought to the US illegally as minors to avoid deportation for a time, and be eligible for work permits - had become "pawns" of the Trump administration.

But Trump wanted to make the calls, and asked Kelly for advice on what to say.

The Defense Department, with the assistance of the FBI, is investigating the details of the Niger ambush in which Johnson and three other USA soldiers were killed. Wilson, a family friend, was present when Johnson received Trump's call. Kelly, who joined the White House to restore internal order, has increasingly become a public figure himself, employed to project calm and reassurance in times of crisis. The FBI said it is assisting, as it has in the past when American citizens are killed overseas.

Sanders said it was "a personal decision" by Kelly to discuss the matter publicly.
