Relatives of people who had suffered those losses.

Some got sympathy and solace.

Natasha De Alencar describes her phone call with President Trump, who called her after her husband, Mark Rochetto De Alencar, was killed in action. Some never heard from him at all, and a few who did came away more upset.

Several spoke of being comforted by Trump but at least one call went awry: Cowanda Jones-Johnson told the AP that Trump spoke disrespectfully of her fallen nephew, Sgt.

The Florida Democrat said she was in the vehicle with Myeshia Johnson on the way to Miami International Airport to meet the body of Johnson's husband, Sgt.

De Alencar declined to comment on the controversy surrounding Trump following the deaths of four USA soldiers in Niger this month.

Florida Democrat Rep. Frederica Wilson said Trump had told the widow that "you know that this could happen when you signed up for it. but it still hurts". "Lovely young man", Trump said, according to Aldene.

As Noah puts it, these bereaved Americans may initially appreciate the solace of a phone call from the White House.

Mohler's email also said that the president's aides had "reached out to Ylber [Bajraktari, a National Security Council aide] looking for the following ASAP from DOD".

The aunt of an Army sergeant killed in Niger says Trump showed "disrespect" to the soldier's loved ones as he telephoned them to extend condolences. That included Chris Baldridge, whose son, Army Sgt. Dillon Baldridge, died in Afghanistan in June. Hunter, 23, from Columbus, Indiana, died 32 days into his first deployment since joining the Army in 2014.

Two days after the arrival of her husband's body, Trump called as she sat with an Army casualty officer. And President Obama's visits with families were well-documented. Trump's recent predecessors have reached out to Gold Star families through letters, private meetings and invitations. Obama may have done so on occasion, he said, but "other presidents did not call".

The White House went into damage-control mode shortly after President Donald Trump said in an interview on October 17 that he had called the families of "virtually everybody" in the military who has been killed this year. He said it's his practice both to make phone calls and send letters.

It says she "considers this as an opportunity to continue to shine a light on the fact that it is often children who bear the harshest burdens of cruelty and injustice". "All of the individuals that the president has been presented with through the proper protocol have been contacted through that process".

Chief of Staff John Kelly, a retired Marine general whose son was killed in Afghanistan, was left angry and frustrated at the way the issue has become politicized. The family is not complaining. Thank you very much, from myself and family. "She's only 24 years old". He had been in Iraq for less than a month. Trump said on Fox News radio.

But when asked if Trump had been in contact, she demurred, saying, "We will not speak ill of a president who adores his troops".

Trump has rejected claims he was disrespectful. He's done this while insisting that as president, he's called "virtually everybody" who's had a family slain in the line of duty. He was a member of the 7th Special Forces Group. Frank Robert Gross, said Trump's "words are basically being taken and misconstrued". She has stacks of letters, scrapbooks and pictures. They also asked for and got one from Obama.

De Alencar: "I'm glad that you got to get to know a little bit about him and got to hear a little bit about him, sir". "But my son was in Syria".

Subsequent reporting suggests that Kelly told Trump this story, but didn't expect him to reveal it to the press and the public. She says they did that in Nashville and the experience was incredibly meaningful. "It was pretty generic".

"I just wanted to let them know that I understand, and I get it and I just want to let them know - my family to their family - we grieve with you".
