His first season with the team was limited due to injuries, too as hamstring issues forced him out of 46 games.

The 13-year veteran has proved to be a reliable floor general and an incredible mentor for young players, a talent the team is in dire need for.

Lin was forced out of Brooklyn's 140-131 loss in IN after he landed awkwardly on his right knee following a driving layup attempt with 4:53 left in the fourth quarter.

Russell will take on an even greater ball-handling role with Lin on the shelf, while guards Caris LeVert and Spencer Dinwiddie are in line for additional playing time as well.

Brooklyn now has $3.4 million in cap space available, but would need to create a roster spot in order to put it to use, according to ESPN Insider Bobby Marks.

This exception, if approved, would be for $6 million. Part of the reason for excitement this season was the fact that point guard Jeremy Lin was finally healthy after playing only 36 games last season.

The Nets had hoped Lin and recently-acquired point guard D'Angelo Russell could form a high-scoring duo as the team's foundation. He landed awkwardly and clutched his knee before signaling to the bench and repeatedly mouthing the words "I'm done".
