Hurricane Ophelia Moving At Snail's Pace To Northeast

"We're looking at the possibility of stormy weather coming our way early next week - Sunday night, Monday, maybe even into Tuesday morning - with the remnants of a hurricane or tropical storm Ophelia wrapped up in it".

A STORM hurtling towards Scotland across the Atlantic has been upgraded to a hurricane, prompting concern among Brits.

The consecutive hurricane streak began quietly on August 9 when Tropical Storm Franklin strengthened into the season's first hurricane while over the Bay of Campeche in the Gulf of Mexico.

The Met Office has issued a Yellow Warning for the tail end of Hurricane Ophelia which is set to hit Northern Ireland on Monday.

Hurricane-force winds extend out 25 miles from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend out 70 miles.

Both Irma and Maria also reached fierce Category 5 strength. Such storms have winds between 74 miles per hour and 95 miles per hour, according to the Saffir-Simpson scale.

This could bring high winds, blinding rain, and some storm surge to the western coast of Ireland, with wind and rain reaching portions of the United Kingdom into Tuesday.

Once the hurricane arrives following its journey across the Atlantic Ocean it is expected to bring winds of up to 70mph.

Met √Čireann, the Irish Meteorological Service, says Ophelia "has the potential to be a high-impact event in parts of the country", listing strong winds, heavy rain, and high seas as likely impacts.

"But then it will continue its way towards the British Isles, probably reaching us very early next week".
