More than 1,000 firefighters from across the state were battling the Canyon Fire 2 in Orange County, which has now scorched 7,500 acres and is 25 percent contained.

Firefighters on Tuesday were hoping to get more control of a brush fire that destroyed 24 structures in Orange County and forced a mass evacuation of residents in Anaheim Hills and Orange. By late afternoon, ash from the fire was falling as far away as Long Beach and San Pedro.

Northbound lanes of the 241 to the 91 freeway, and the east and west off-ramps at Gypsum Canyon Road, have also been shut down. Resources across the state were taxed as some fires went from ignition to tens of thousands of acres in just a few hours. Eyewitness News observed at least nine homes that were destroyed by flames. Understudies that were cleared are now at Canyon High School - two primary schools have been emptied, as indicated by the Associated Press.

Officials in the neighboring city of Orange issued evacuation orders for all residents north of Santiago Canyon road to the city border with Anaheim.
