South Africa's veteran prop Tendai Mtawarira will miss their test against New Zealand in the Rugby Championship on Saturday for unspecified "family reasons", coach Allister Coetzee said on Thursday.

"It's not a flawless formula and I believe it's a positive that we can move between that direct style of play and using more width, and we can also pressure teams with our kicking game", said Coetzee.

"What I mean by that is mentally, for them, they were all coming in trying to test themselves and say 'listen, we don't need (retired captain Richie) McCaw and (Conrad) Smith and all these guys, we can still do this".

Hansen said he expected a backlash from the Springboks, who were heavily criticised by their fans after their record defeat at North Harbour Stadium. What it showed us is we've got to be in the right mindset otherwise we're vulnerable.

Coetzee said he knew the areas that required further work: "We had them under pressure at times, but you can not give the ball away against New Zealand".

'This year's been a great year for us, ' Hansen said after the 25-24 win against South Africa at Newlands ensured the world champions maintained their southern hemisphere domination.

Game Preview & Betting advice - Michigan State at Michigan(#7) - Start time 12:30am
MI lined up to punt with 10 seconds left and the leading, needing to snap the ball, punt it and avoid giving up a touchdown. The Michigan offense took a hit last week when they lost quarterback Wilton Speight to an undisclosed injury.

New Zealand led 8-3 at the break after a bruising first half but were given a scare as Marx's 79th-minute try, converted by Elton Jantjies, took the hosts to within a single point.

Ioane's try came when he latched on to a wayward Springboks pass with the Boks on the attack and went 80 meters to score.

Over the near eight year reign the All Blacks have claimed two World Cup titles and played 106 tests, losing just eight with three draws.

The second came when De Allende followed through after attempting to charge down a Sopoaga kick, and made contact with the flyhalf late and high.

"It'll give our younger players who haven't been in that situation before a little bit of belief that even though it's tough, you can find a way", Hansen said.
