Yankees win again, but AL East title hopes in trouble

The Astros won the first two games, remaining alive in the chase for the American League's top record - and keeping the Red Sox from clinching their second straight AL East title.

This is done to make things more exciting and it certainly will be if the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox are within one game on the final day of the regular season.

You wouldn't have to pull a move like the team did in the 2015 American League Division Series during game five where they pulled Dallas Keuchel in from the bullpen in the ninth inning on two days rest. In order to create a tie and force a one-game playoff, the Yankees would need to win three straight games and have the Red Sox lose three straight games.

The AL West champion Astros won their fifth consecutive game and posted their 100th victory of the season. After a brief discussion, Farrell left the $217 million man in the game with the bases loaded.

Twins 6, Tigers 3: Brian Dozier hit a three-run homer in the second inning to power host Minnesota, and Eduardo Escobar also homered and drove in three runs. The loser would go to the wild-card game. They trusted no one other than Aroldis Chapman and his arm almost fell off against the Cleveland Indians as the Cubs made him throw 15.2 innings in 13 appearances over 17 games.

CHICAGO - Ian Happ slugged his 24th home run, a three-run shot in the eighth inning that helped Chicago to a come-from-behind victory over Cincinnati.

Aaron Judge led off the inning with a 484-foot homer to left-center that cleared the bleachers and landed in front of the retired numbers display, his 52nd. A repeat of past year when the Red Sox were swept in the ALDS would avoid this scenario altogether, although that's certainly not what we want.

Stagnant flu vaccine rates worry United States health officials
Australia, which experiences its flu season in summer because it's in the southern hemisphere, has been hard hit this year. He said that for this season, health officials are recommending only injectable vaccines, not nasal spray flu vaccine.

The Rays have been eliminated from playoff contention and assured of a losing record, but they now know they will finish ahead of the Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays.

Zimmerman had doubles in his first two at-bats, then hit a two-run homer off A.J. Schugel in the sixth to give the Nationals a 4-0 lead.

Morton allowed four hits in 5 1/3 innings. Pomeranz was lit up for five runs in just two innings in his last start, and I just have this weird feeling when I watch him pitch that there's something wrong, though I can't put my finger on it.

Lorenzen (8-4) took the loss after working two-thirds of an inning as the Reds (67-93) dropped their ninth in 10 games.

If you only count Price's production as a reliever, those pitchers own a combined 1.05 ERA this season. Marcell Ozuna collected three ribbies, including a two-run double after Atlanta took an early 5-0 lead.

Nunez returned to the Red Sox lineup on Monday after missing two weeks with a sprained knee. Jose Berrios (14-8) pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings to get the win in his first major league relief appearance, a planned short outing in case he's needed in relief of starter Ervin Santana for Tuesday's wild-card game. The Brewers stayed alive with a 5-3 win over the Cardinals but were unable to gain any ground on the Rockies, who closed their magic number to 1 with a 9-1 win over the Dodgers at Coors Field. In his career, McCullers Jr.is 0-0 with a 4.91 ERA and 9 strikeouts against Boston. Milwaukee has won four of its last six games. The left-hander has walked just one batter and struck out nine.
