Denver Broncos plan to stand together for national anthem

The players clarified their protest for members of their fan base who felt they disrespected the US military and the flag by kneeling or linking arms during the anthem. The council includes linebacker Brandon Marshall, who is known for kneeling past year and using the platform to spur change with the Denver Police Department.

Broncos players announced Thursday they will stand for the national anthem starting Sunday when they host the Raiders.

"Last week, members of our team joined their brothers around the National Football League in a powerful display of unity", the team said. "As controversial as it appeared, we needed to show our collective strength and resolve", a note from the players read.

Head coach Vance Joseph believes in standing for the anthem and has defended his players' right to peacefully protest.

This week, the leadership on the team got together to decide on a plan of action moving forward, and this is what they came up with. "We felt like that was the best direction to go". There was outside belief that the team must have felt pressure from the top to fall in line and stand on Sunday.
