- Bayern Munich sack Carlo Ancelloti after 3-0 drubbing by PSG.

Carlo Ancelotti has been sacked by Bayern Munich after their 3-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions league.

"I'm sorry for Carlo, who will remain a friend, but we had to act for the good of Bayern", said CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

Bayern have now roped in Willy Sagnol as their interim coach.

Bayern are third in the league and second in their Champions League group, with dismal defeats to Hoffenheim and PSG exacerbated by further poor displays and apparent problems behind the scenes.

"Our team's performances did not meet our expectations from the start of the season".

"We have to show a reaction there". Sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic and I gave Carlo an open and serious talk today and informed him of our decision, ' quoted Rummenigge as saying.

Ancelotti's team of assistants - his son Davide, Giovanni Mauri, Francesco Mauri and Mino Fulco - was also released by the club. I would like to thank Carlo for the collaboration and regret the way things have developed.

Ancelotti took risks with what has turned out to be his final team selection as the manager of the Bundesliga champions.

One man that has been hotly linked with a move in the immediate aftermath of Ancelotti's axing is Thomas Tuchel, the former Borussia Dortmund boss who left Bayern's rivals in the summer following a spat with the owners. Madrid and Dortmund went on to win the respective titles.

Ancelotti led Bayern to the Bundesliga title in his first season in charge, after being appointed to replace Pep Guardiola a year ago.

And the German champions eventually made a decision to part ways with the former PSG and Real Madrid boss after just one full season in charge.

Ancelotti's under-performing Bayern are back in action on Sunday, away to Hertha Berlin in the Bundesliga.
