Donald is still out Week 1 against the Indianapolis Colts, and PFT says that he may miss Week 2 as well. Donald has stayed away from the Rams since offseason team activities in May, demanding a new contract after three standout National Football League seasons.

"He is not ruled out, but right now he's not here", Rams coach Sean McVay told TheRams.com.

Donald stayed away from the Rams starting in May, holding out through offseason team activities, training camp and the entire preseason while attempting to get a lucrative new contract. As expected, Donald is not expected to play tomorrow. Playing this season under his rookie contract is a fairly enormous risk, given that kind of earning potential.

Donald has not received a new contract, but the two sides will keep working toward one, the source told Schefter.

Donald is seeking a deal that would make him the NFL's highest-paid defensive player. He has made the Pro Bowl in each of the previous three seasons, and has been named first-team All-Pro in 2015 and 2016. The Rams have converted to a new defensive scheme under Wade Phillips.

Tanzel Smart, a rookie sixth-rounder out of Tulane, is listed as the starter in Donald's position on the Rams' Week 1 depth chart.
